31 August 2026 - Letter from FAFICS President
Dear Colleagues,
Six weeks ago, we successfully concluded the 56th FAFICS Council session. Thanks to your active participation, the meeting yielded productive discussions and important decisions that will help guide the Federation's work. We are now beginning preparations for the 57th FAFICS Council Session, tentatively scheduled to take place in Geneva from 19 to 23 July 2027, the week before the meeting of United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund (UNJSPF) Board.
The decision to hold the next Council Session in Geneva reflects, among other considerations, the importance of strengthening our engagement with some of the Pension Board members, including UNJSPF and staff representatives bodies, This Council Meeting should provide an opportunity for closer interaction with relevant Pension Fund officials and stakeholders and enable participants to gain a better understanding of developments affecting our pensions and the broader interests of retirees, including ASHI.
I have asked Vice-President Clemens Adams, with the support of Secretary Delia Barcelona, to lead a working group of Member Associations’ representatives to plan this Council meeting. The working group will comprise five to seven colleagues, drawn from these different Associations, to ensure that a broad range of perspectives and experiences is reflected. The working group will work under the overall leadership of the Bureau.
To help shape a Council Session that is meaningful, relevant, interactive, and engaging, we invite your ideas, comments, and suggestions on its design, format, content, and priorities. Please consider sharing your views on the following:
· What has worked particularly well in previous Council Sessions?
· What could be improved, streamlined, or discontinued?
· What new ideas, approaches, formats, or topics should be introduced?
· How can the sessions become more interactive and encourage greater participation by Member Associations? In particular how can Member Associations be more involved in leading and presenting Council sessions?
· How can we ensure that the programme addresses both the immediate concerns of retirees and the longer-term strategic priorities of FAFICS?
Your inputs will inform the planning of the 57th Council Session and support the work of the small working group being established by Vice President Clemens Adams and FAFICS Secretary Delia Barcelona to co-design the programme.
