Elections and Terms

AFICS/New York holds elections every two years for its Governing Board and leadership roles. Members of the Governing Board serve four-year terms and can be re-elected for one consecutive term. After completing two terms, members must take a two-year break before becoming eligible for a third term.

Starting in 2026, elections will be held exclusively online in the Spring of each even-numbered year and will be managed by an independent Nominating Committee appointed by the president. Board members standing for re-election and members of the leadership team may not serve on the Committee. All AFICS/New York members receive email notifications with candidate information and voting instructions, and results are announced at the Annual Assembly.

Leadership positions—President, First and Second Vice-Presidents, Treasurer, and Secretary are elected by the Governing Board from its voting membership at its first meeting following the Annual Assembly and they serve two-year terms effective from that date. The Board may also appoint up to seven honorary members.
