The Association of Former International Civil Servants in New York (AFICS/NY) was founded at United Nations Headquarters (UNHQ) in 1970 with strong support from UN Secretary-General U Thant and subsequent Secretaries-General. Starting with just a handful of members, it now boasts close to 3,000 members across the USA and many countries worldwide.

The Governing Board includes a president, two vice presidents, a secretary and deputy secretary, a treasurer and deputy secretary. AFICS/NY also has two office assistants and a librarian who manages a library of books written by retirees, available to members.

It operates with seven Standing Committees, each with Co-Chairs and members drawn from both the Governing Board and the general membership.

AFICS/NY is a member of the UN Health and Life Insurance Committee (HLIC) at UN Headquarters.

Yes. It closely follows the ACABQ (Advisory Committee on Administrative and Budgetary Questions) and the Fifth Committee on matters relevant to its members.
