I am much saddened to share sad news that our dear Honorary Governing Board Member Miss Jane Weidlund, passed away last Friday evening, August 6, at The Osborne, her retirement Residence in Hamilton, New York.

As per her Godson, Jane had been talking over the telephone shortly before her demise. As indicated by her aide she parted serenely.

Jane would have reached 97 years of age this coming Thursday, August 12, in complete lucidity.

Final funeral arrangements are pending, including a Memorial Mass to her at the Church of the Holy Family close to the UN, the date of which we will know ahead of time. Also, as per her wishes, her ashes will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C. by her parents, as her father was a World War I veteran.

Indeed, Jane Weidlund's was a lifetime of love and dedication to the United Nations, with a rich career on technical cooperation and to the ideals for what the Organization stands for. Likewise, to AFICS NY once retired, to which she contributed with several initiatives. A copy of her Memoirs is available at the AFICS NY library.

They are worth reading.

May Jane's soul forever rest in the peace of the Lord.

Andrés Castellanos del Corral.
